We have worked with The Blagrave Trust for some time, and are delighted to have been awarded funding for our Key Worker Support work.

Developed to support young people leaving Local Authority foster or residential care, or who have left care in an unplanned way, Next Steps is delivered by Key Workers who support young people into independent living, to achieve their potential and move forward in their lives.

Next Steps has been delivered in Southampton, in partnership with No Limits and Southampton Voluntary Services, since March 2012. In April 2019, thanks to funding from the Henry Smith Charity, we extended delivering to Eastleigh.

Regular weekly group sessions take place where individuals can meet others with similar life experiences and practical training around independent living skills can be delivered, from money management, and living on a budget, to practical cooking, cleaning and, health and safety. Ultimately, the scope of Next Steps is steered by the participating young people. Gradually they take more responsibility for organising sessions, activities, and outings. They gain confidence, develop greater self-worth, make friends, and experience shows they feel more positive about their future.
